MANILA, Philippines – BTS and Coldplay’s new collaborative single, “My Universe,” skyrocketed the Billboard Hot 100 song chart to No.1 this week, overtaking Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, Dua Lipa and others notable.
Sung mainly in English with a mixture of Korean lyrics, “My Universe” is the 1,129th number 1 in the 63-year history of the Hot 100; making it Coldplay’s second # 1 Hot 100 since 2008 and BTS’s sixth # 1 entry in the Hot 100 chart after “Dynamite”.
Since its release, “My Universe” has seen 95.4 million streams and 142,400 downloads sold worldwide based on the tracking week of September 24-30, according to data released by Billboard.
When the two music giants broke the news of their collaboration, some fans may have doubted whether it would work or not, given that they are different in terms of musical style.
But true to what the lyrics say, “They said we can’t be together because we come from different sides”, it leads to the electrifying chorus, “You are my universe, and I just want to put you first” , the two groups created groundbreaking music and proved to be the perfect match.
The official music video is now 38 million hits on YouTube as of this writing with no signs of slowing down. When a British rock band as iconic as Coldplay teams up with a global K-pop group, one can only expect the best.
With its “Guardians of the Galaxy-esque” theme, the clip shines the spotlight on the two groups’ intergalactic adventures to create music that promises to unite people of all cultures and languages.
