Originally called Masters of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Concert Series, the show was founded by George Kahumoku and his two close friends, Paul Konwieser and Wayne Wong.

NAPILI – George and Nancy Kahumoku are pleased to announce the 18th Anniversary of the Slack Key Show – Masters of Hawaiian Music on Wednesday, October 20 at 6:30 p.m.

Special guest will be the legendary Led Kaapana, Grandmaster of Slack Key, who has performed as a guest artist since the show’s inception in 2003. George and Led have been recording and touring for George Winston’s Dancing Cat Records since late 1990 , and so was born the concept of creating a concert hall in Hawaii for these distinguished guitarists.

Originally called Masters of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Concert Series, the show was founded by George and his two close friends, Paul Konwieser and Wayne Wong. The shows were presented at the Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua.

The Grammy Awards then opened up a Hawaiian music category, which was a great opportunity to promote recordings by Hawaiian artists. Their annual collections were designed by George’s close friend Daniel Ho, and these CDs have won the award for Best Hawaiian Music Album for four of five consecutive years.

When the Ritz-Carlton closed for renovation, General Manager Gregg Nelson generously invited George to bring the series to the Napili Kai Beach Resort, where she stayed.

The show’s name changed to The Slack Key Show, adding Masters of Hawaiian Music to better describe the shows when ukulele, steel guitar, and singers outside of the slack key genre were added as guest performers.
