At a recent meeting, The Plant Based People Group heard about The Seed Library at the Modest Bedient Memorial Library in Branchport. The Seed Library project was funded (in part) by a grant from the Foundation for Southern Tier Libraries which was secured by Shelley Pierce, the library’s director. The Seed Library consists of a catalog of seeds for growing herbs, vegetables and fruits. There is no cost for the seeds, but donations are appreciated and help keep this initiative going. Please come check out our seed library! You’ll be glad you did!

The Plant Based People Group strives to promote education, fellowship, and food creativity to community members interested in exploring vegetarian and vegan lifestyles. Our group meets the first Wednesday of every month from 6-7:45 p.m. at the Modeste Bedient Memorial Library in Branchport. We have guest speakers, teachings for members and lively discussions. In the future, we plan to organize vegan potlucks and field trips! You can call the library at 315-595-2899 for more information, or just show up! All are welcome, no matter where you are on your plant-based journey.

Yates Concert Series (YCS) continues to offer its expertise and efforts to align community event partnerships, supported by grants and community interest. The goal of this program, launched in late 2020 — and as some community groups already know — is to get musicians to perform at free community events. YCS has long offered free summer concerts on the Old Yates County Courthouse Lawn and believes that music enhances all types of community events and festivals. We are excited to continue to make this new opportunity available in our region. You who organize free community events open to the public, apply now! Contact the YCS Partnership Committee via [email protected] to learn more and get a community partnership request. Please share who you are, proposed details of your planned event, the type of music you hope to have, and phone and email contact information. Give us your news! We plan to respond as soon as possible.
