Eight Flights Awarded to All-SEC Teams Preseason Coaches

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – With the 2022 season kicking off just over a week away, the All-SEC Preseason Coaches Team was released Tuesday afternoon with eight volunteers on the charts.

Two Vols were cheered by the first team in the form of a wide receiver Cedric Tillman and lineman/defensive linebacker Byron Young. Tillman leads the conference in returning production to the wide receiver, amassing 1,081 yards on 64 receptions and 12 touchdowns a season ago. Young is poised to build on a strong finish to the season last year when he recorded 5.5 sacks and 11.5 tackles for loss. He’s posted a TFL in eight of the team’s last nine games and recorded a multi-sack effort in the win at Kentucky.

In the second team is the quarterback Hendon Hooker and offensive lineman Darnell Wright. Hooker had a strong offseason after a breakout year in 2021 where he broke single-season program records for completion percentage (68.0) and passer efficiency rating (181.4) . Hooker has 3,561 total rushing yards and 36 total touchdowns during the 2021 campaign. Protecting him up front is Wright who enters his senior season at UT with three years of starting experience under his belt. Wright had the most snaps on the team a season ago, recording 922 plays on the offensive line.

Rounding out Tennessee’s third-team selections, running back Little Jabarilinebacker Jeremy Banksdefensive back Trévon flowers and bettor Paxton Brooks. All four provide a wealth of knowledge, leadership and experience for the Vols, heading into 2022. Banks, a redshirt senior, is coming off a 20-tackle performance at the TransPerfect Music City Bowl, while seniors Flowers and Brooks hope to continue the solid, dependable production they’ve been known for since Rocky Top. Small, UT’s top returning runner, is the leader of the young room running backs and has been working on getting physically ready for the season, while making sure he’s healthy enough to make it through the next step in his development and level of play.
