Letter to the Editor: Swingin’ Door Big Band a great night of entertainment

Let me sincerely thank the Swingin’ Door Big Band for a fantastic show, and the youth of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay for their outstanding hospitality last Friday.

the Swing in the spring The event was a fundraiser for the church’s youth group and included a dinner prepared by the Smokin’ Tom’s BBQ team, music and dancing. The concert was a great start to the Swingin’ Door Big Band’s 2022 season and featured some of Door County’s top musicians playing well-known hits from artists such as Glenn Miller, Cole Porter and Duke Ellington.

The concert recalled the big band era of the 1930s and 1940s and featured B company vocals in the timeless style of the Andrews Sisters. In keeping with the spirit of the shows of yesteryear, there were two “on-air” advertisements for humorous products that could be heard while listening to the radio.

Our local musicians did an amazing job performing all-time favorites including “In the Mood”, “American Patrol”, “String of Pearls”, “Moonlight Serenade” and many more. The band left everyone wanting to hear more, and the only disappointment was when the gig ended. The Swingin’ Door Big Band is definitely a band not to be missed this year!

Once again, thank you for an excellent evening of entertainment and absolute pleasure. And to the young people who served the meal, thank you for your hospitality!
