Leaders and activists of progressive student groups have demanded the removal of Professor Bellal Hossain from his position as Provost of Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall at the University of Dhaka.

On August 18, the provost handed over a student – Meftahul Hossain Maruf – to the prosecutorial team, suspecting him of being a member of a militant group or involved in anti-state activities.

Later, the police team handed him over to the police. But on Friday, August 19, 2022, police handed over the second-year political science student to the department’s Professor Aynul Islam, as they found no evidence regarding the allegation.

Speakers at the rally said the provost was influenced by the BCL men and he did.

They also urged to take action against the BCL men who are linked to the incidents.

They alleged that the DU rooms turned into a kind of torture cell, controlled by BCL men.
