Warner Music Group today announced that Sarah Ismail has been promoted to General Manager of Warner Music Philippines. She will take up her new duties on October 1.
As a senior member of Warner Music’s regional management team, Sarah will oversee its operations across the Philippines. Based in Manila, she will report to Simon Robson, President, International, Recorded Music, Warner Music Group.
Sarah joined WMG in 2019 and was quickly promoted to Regional Marketing Director for Greater China and Southeast Asia. In this role, Sarah was responsible for leading Warner Music’s regional marketing team and was responsible for mentoring its affiliates, working closely with them to localize and adapt global and regional strategies.
With over a decade of experience in the music industry, Sarah has worked with true superstars on high-profile campaigns including Lady Gaga’s very first showcase in Asia and the first concerts in Cambodia for Jessie. J and Demi Lovato. She has played a pivotal role in the nascent careers of many groundbreaking artists, such as Calum Scott and Greyson Chance, improving their visibility across Asia and growing their fan base.
Sarah says, “I couldn’t be more excited to take on this role. The Philippines is one of our key markets in Southeast Asia as digital activity has grown significantly there. Manila itself has become a major target for upcoming artists and is a ‘trigger city’ capable of propelling the tracks to global hits. The Philippines is a country with enormous potential. It has an abundance of local talent and a culture that recognizes the importance of music and what it means to all of us. We will work hard to strengthen our national list, while ensuring that our international acts continue to flourish. “
Simon Robson adds, “I am delighted that Sarah’s ability, strategic vision and unprecedented drive have enabled her to move from Warner Music to the most senior position in the Philippines. The country’s music scene has grown significantly recently, and our domestic talents are becoming increasingly influential on the global entertainment platform. Sarah’s appointment represents Warner Music’s efforts to accelerate the development of these local artists. She has a brilliant background in Marketing, Branding, Advertising and Events, and we will leverage her expertise and the company’s global network of resources to amplify the stories of our Filipino artists internationally. .
Sarah first transmitted her passion for music to local radio in her native Singapore in 2008. Two years later she joined Universal Music Group, where over a period of nine years she rose through the ranks and was became Regional Marketing Director, covering Southeast Asia and Korea. Sarah moved to Hong Kong in 2017 for work, but will now relocate to the Philippines to take on her new role.
Sarah holds a BA in Communication from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.
