Shreveport band manager aims for Grammy Educator Award


SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – A Caddo Parish Schools music teacher is a quarter-finalist for national recognition of excellence in music education.

Caddo Parish Public Schools released the announcement regarding Booker T. Washington High School Groups Principal Emmanuel Hudson on Facebook.

The Grammy Music Educator Award is open to current full-time educators in the United States who teach music in public or private schools, from kindergarten through middle school. Teachers at extracurricular institutions, private studios or other educational institutions are not eligible. Teachers planning to retire at the end of the current school year are not eligible.

The award recognizes current educators who have made a significant contribution to music education. Hudson was among 1,500 honorees, and now he is one of 200 quarter-finalists.

Hudson and his nominating cohort have several rounds of Grammy committee evaluations before the final announcement in September.

The Grammy Blue Ribbon committee will select ten finalists, including the winner of the 2023 Grammy Music Educator Award.
