Sports team announces new music coming soon

New music seems to be on the way from Sports Team this month.

Today (March 2), the band took to Twitter to share a screenshot of an email with the subject line “Album masters from Randy.”

They accompanied it with a tweet that read: “Hits only. New music before the end of the month.

Sports Team followed it up with another Tweet that read, “Maybe some surprise features on the backrest. Think Rob Stewart but younger and less handsome.

The band are also due to play at the BBC 6 Radio Music Festival this year.

The annual live music event is set to take place at multiple venues in Cardiff from April 1-3, marking 6 Music’s first in-person festival since 2020. Last year’s event was digital only due to the pandemic of coronavirus.

IDLES, Little Simz and Father John Misty are joined on the 6 Music Festival 2022 lineup by Pixies, Wet Leg, Beabadoobee, Cat Power, Johnny Marr, Self Esteem, Khruangbin, Bloc Party, Lucy Dacus and more.

This year’s festival will feature live performances, DJ sets, new music showcases, conversation events and more, with the event set to air on BBC Sounds, BBC Four and BBC iPlayer.

Reviewing Sports Team’s debut album, NME said, “They will receive as much hatred as worship: either you are with them or you are not.

“Whichever side you’re on, having the frontman of an indie band in 2020 sincerely say he wants to play Knebworth is like a refreshing boost for a genre whose mission statement has been ‘we’re doing music for ourselves – if anyone else likes it, that’s a bonus” for over a decade. Through ‘Deep Down Happy’, Sports Team shows they have the tunes to start this journey in earnest.
