Only a handful of new songs make it to this week’s UK singles chart, with most coming in the bottom half of the charts. While there might not be many massive new starts in the tally, one group is making the roster for the first time, and in doing so is making history for the nation.
Twice is releasing their new single “The Feels” at No.80 on the latest UK song chart, appearing on the charts for the first time in their years together. The smash wins the fifth-highest debut on the frame, coming behind new tracks from musicians such as Skylar Gray, Tom Grennan and Headie One.
With their first placement on the UK’s Most Popular Songs Weekly List, Twice officially becomes the second South Korean girl group to hit the charts. While K-pop groups have made huge strides in global domination over the past few years, it’s still quite rare that groups of all kinds across the Asian nation score hit singles, and fully-fledged troupes. women do it even less frequently.
Twice joins Blackpink by recording a hit single in the UK. The girl group have now placed seven tracks in the nation’s hit charts, including half a dozen top 40 smashes. The group has now appeared on the roster with tracks like “How You Like That” (# 20), “Ice Cream” with Selena Gomez (# 39) and featured on tracks performed by Dua Lipa (“Kiss and Make Up ”, n 36) and Lady Gaga (“ Sour Candy ”, n 17).
“The Feels” is Twice’s originally English debut single, so it was promoted in Western countries. The nine-member vocal group have released songs in this language before, but they were all translations of previously discontinued tracks, as their latest effort was written and produced specifically to be performed in English.
